There was no dependance on machinery to fine tune incorrect vocals or record sessions to use that one perfect melody; it was all real, raw and human. Today we see several artists, bands and orchestras perform with the help of sound equipment making their performance flawless, which may be satisfying to the ears of the public, but then what sets them apart?
